Land use is becoming an increasingly important issue in Pennsylvania.
There is renewed discussion about finding ways to slow sprawl or create
alternatives to current land use patterns, and using land use planning to help
communities deal with land use conflicts, farmland preservation, and
residential development. What is not clear in much of the discussion,
however, is how well the land use planning tools currently available to
Pennsylvania communities are being used.
This site and materials are intended to help you better understand the
current status of land use planning in Pennsylvania, and uses information from a comprehensive
study of land use regulation
and planning in Pennsylvania, which was made possible, in part, by a grant
from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, a legislative agency of the
Pennsylvania General Assembly.
